The Problem:
GM: "You are face to face with a corporate security goon in heavy mil-spec armour. You're down on the ground, your predator in your hand, a gun that won't even scratch his heavy combat, and he's hovering over you, his HMG trained on you. He lifts up the visor of his helmet to reveal a smug smile on his f*..."
Player: "I shoot him in the face! He's up close, so that's target number 4. I have a smartlink brining it down to 2. It's a called shot, making it 6. I have Pistols (Predator) 5 (7), and I pump all my combat pool dice in it. That's 14 dice against target number six."
*rattling of dice*
Player: "That's six successes! Staging it up from 9M to 9S because it's a called shot. 9D for the first two successes. 10D for the second, and 11D for the third. He gets no armour save, so he has to resist with his puny body of...what? Six! Let him roll against target number 11. He's dead as fucking...dead! I win."
GM: "I hate you."
The Canon Solution:
The player calling the shot can choose one result from the following three options:
- The Damage Code is increased by one Level (as stated on p. 114, SR3). The target's regular armor applies.
- The attack bypasses the target's armor. In this case, the attack's Damage Code is not modified, but the Power is not reduced by armor bonuses. (Note that the attacker can simply choose a location on the target that is less armored, rather than bypassing the armor completely, so that only the armor in that location applies).
- Target a smaller part of a larger target (such as the tires on a vehicle).
